The Story

URC initially started out as NURC (National ultimate running championship), as an idea in late 2019. With a strong passion for all arts of running, we wanted to find a way to compare endurance runners and other athletes from various backgrounds in one shared arena.

When everything shut down in the beginning of the Corona-pandemic in Norway, we decided that this was the perfect opportunity to try an ultimate running championship virtually, so we chose certain locations and made our eventually much recognizable segments/stages at each place. We also made a website and promoted the concept in SoMe.

The response from those who stumbled over NURC and gave it a try was very good, and we received a lot of positive and valuable feedback from those who participated. NURC also got attention in various media, and below is a collection of articles written about the concept around the time where it was launched. Resources were limited in our first year, and our biggest limitation was that we couldn’t produce live results during NURC Virtual 2020.

After an evaluation period during the off-season, we dropped the “N” and were back the following year with an expanded and more complete team. URC Virtual 2021 had locations, or arenas as we call it, all over the country with live result updates. Many took part, from the exerciser in the street to world-renowned athletes.

2023 was a gap year, which is common for most major and exclusive championships. In 2024, however, we will be back with the first physical edition of URC, in a limited edition. We hope to see you at the starting line!
